OK, lets get a few things straight here. I am not an English major nor do I clam to have perfectly correct speech. However, I am aware many grammatical errors our society has come to deem as “acceptable”. Which, coincidentally, DRIVE ME INSANE!

1. Their, They’re, and There
Their implys possession
(Their baseball)
They’re is a contraction of they and are
(They’re leaving)
There refers to a place
(There is the store)

2. Is vs. Are
When referring to a subject that is singular, the verb must be in singular form
(There is one left)
When referring to a subject that is plural, the verb must be in plural form
(There are two left)
So many people (myself included until I heard how incorrect it sounds) make the mistake of using a singular verb when talking about a plural subject – usually, only when talking (There is 10 people going) – That is like nails on a chalkboard….

3. “Person and I”
When tagging people in pictures on Facebook it is NOT “Joe and I” because if you took “Joe” out, all you have left is “I”. When talking about yourself, you do not say “This is I” you say “This is Me”.  Further more, you never put yourself
first. “Joe and Me” not “Me and Joe”. I go crazy reading this on people’s pictures. Not to be blunt, but it sounds uneducated and ignorant.

4. “A Fake Lisp”
Seriously?! Why on earth would you want to pretend you have a lisp? What purpose does this serve? Are you trying to be cute? Let me be the first to tell you, that is NOT cute! First, you are being inconsiderately rude to people who deal with a lisp.  Second, you make yourself sound, once again, uneducated. Now, I am not saying people who have a lisp sound uneducated by any means. I am saying when you carry on a normal, intelligent conversation then randomly speak with a lisp… come on, you can see where this is going. You wouldn’t ride around in a wheelchair pretending you cannot walk would you?
