How Much Is That Doggie In The Window? February 23, 2009

My love and I adore our Miniature Schnauzer. He is our pride and joy and is closest to children we are brave enough to venture. On a regular basis we like to get him bones from a nearby dog bakery as he is a heavy chewer. However, tonight we didn’t make it to the bakery and were forced to go to a new place. It was called Uncle Bills Pet Store. When I walked in I was surprised to find about 30 puppies. 3 were in open pens on the floor to pet and love and the rest were in cages stacked like apartments. My immediate reaction was “Oh My Gosh! I NEED one!” They were so adorable. It was so tempting to hold one, but I had to restrain because I knew if I did, he or she would be coming home with us.

Luckily, I refrained and walked up to the cash register to purchase our bone for Hugo. (Mind you he is 16 pounds and I got the bone for a 50+ pound dog…) I got up the courage to ask the cashier where their puppies came from, rescues or puppy mills. She immediately put the kibosh on the puppy mill thought and assured me they were all from breeders. I didn’t think any more about it and went on with my night.

After we got home I had a nagging feeling that those puppies could not be from breeders. I searched online and quickly had my suspicions confirmed. Apparently, Uncle Bill’s is the number one protested pet store in the area due to the fact that ALL their puppies come from puppy mills. It broke my heart to know this. I so badly wanted to go buy all the puppies to give them good homes, but from what I read, that is the worst thing you can do. It only adds to the vicious cycle. Old puppy out, new puppy in.

For those who may not know, puppy mills are large scale breeding farms that operate under less than favorable conditions. The puppies usually have temperament issues as well as MANY health issues. They live in overcrowded cages with little love or affection given to them. Why would anyone want to treat a precious, helpless, adorable animal with such disrespect?

I am so happy to know our little guy is not a product of a puppy mill. When we do cross the bridge of getting another dog, we will be going through a rescue or humane society. I refuse to support a puppy mill. What do you decide?

Please join the fight to stop puppy mills.

Save The Drama For Your Mama… February 20, 2009

Drama is something that has a way of sneaking up on you. No matter how hard you try to steer clear from ”it” and cover all the bases in hopes of avoiding “it”, it always wins and rears its ugly head. In turn creating term-oil, frustration, and anxiety. The root of the problem is usually greed, jealousy, or a combination of both.

So with high hopes of avoiding drama in my life I am sucking out the poison and only surrounding myself with positive people who see the glass as half full. As for the Negative Nancys…What goes around, comes around.

Grow up!

Addictions… February 20, 2009

Everyone has an addiction. Right?

“It’s shocking how many kinds of addiction exist. It would be too easy if it were just drugs and booze and cigarettes. I think the hardest part of kicking a habit is wanting to kick it. I mean, we get addicted for a reason, right? Often, too often, things that start out as just a normal part of your life at some point cross the line to obsessive, compulsive, out of control. It’s the high we’re chasing, the high that makes everything else fade away.

The thing about addiction is it never ends well, because eventually, whatever it is that was getting us high stops feeling good and starts to hurt. Still, they say you don’t kick the habit until you hit rock bottom, but how do you know when you’re there? Because no matter how badly a thing is hurting us, sometimes letting it go hurts even worse.” – Grey’s Anatomy Love/Addiction

What’s your addiction?

Happy Valentines Day February 15, 2009

My love and I are not big on Valentines Day. Our philosophy is why only show your love to each other one day a year, when you can every day?  The day is just like any other day to us.

So this year defiantly topped the charts as far as what we did… We watched our dear friends 3 children. Ages 8, 6, and almost 3. Let me tell you, that was the BEST birthcontrol you could ever ask for. I highly recommend it! IF there was ever a thought of having children, any time soon in our minds, that thought is now gone.

We had a really fun time with the kiddos, but when we came home, I needed 2 things.
1. A strong drink
2. A long nap :)

We had planned to go to the movie Confessions of a Shopaholic but the day got away from us. So we’re thinking we might try to go Sunday.

Here’s to showing love.

Traffic February 12, 2009

Dear Traffic,

It has been recently brought to my attention that something is out of “wack” with the excessive amount of traffic flow on 146th street. I am not sure why I am being forced to sit at a light for 10 minutes and have it change 3 to 5 times when I can clearly see there are no accidents or construction incidences. This is unacceptable and frankly entirely inconsiderate. For those of us who might be running late, we do not appreciate our already hetic schedule being disrupted any further. I do promise, if this issue is not resolved soon I will get out of my vehicle and use my designer shoe as a weapon.

Sincerely yours,
“In God We Trust: DB 1843″
